Syvarous - The Arcanist Blade

Syvarous is the blade of an Arcanist Mage named Stilgar. Arcanist Mages are my answer to scientists who don't think beyond science. Their thoughts tend to run more toward, how can I do this, or I can accomplish this, without the bothersome, is it right to do this, or will this cause potential harm. I had the thought of a mage who kept trying to push the envelop by augmenting and refining magic until his research caused him to lose the function of his hand, and caused the death of his apprentice. Feeling the remorse of consequences for the first time, he went into hiding and, wracked with guilt, he wallowed in self-pity from his handicap as well as the torment of his soul from the death of his apprentice. Only recently has he found new purpose in life as he begins to aid a group of individuals who are attempting to break the shackles of a slaving band.



Forged from a time long ago, and now rediscovered within the war torn lands of Skarsla, Syvarous is a prime example of what the Arcanist Mage does. Composed of a close knit and interlocking enchantments, the blade has been augmented for one purpose and one alone, to be born into battle at the side of a mage. Forged at some early time of the Reign of Fire to be the weapon of one of the Flames, mage/priests who tracked down and brought justice to Necromancer outlaws, the weapon saw new life a mere two decades ago by its current wielder, the blade has been refined over time to reflect the needs and purposes of that wielder alone. Most noticeable is the fact that an individual who cannot grasp the hilt can now wield the weapon. The enchantment causing this was embedded in the weapon when the mage lost the use of their sword hand in a miscast experimental spell used to augment their enspelled equipment. The weapon remained with the mage, one Stilgar of Vagrad Keep, when he was forced to flee for his life and go into hiding, a bounty on his head by the one he once called lord, remaining locked in a chest for years as he immersed himself in his new persona of a common hostler in a remote village. It is only recently that he has once more borne the blade at his side as he travels with two paladins against a group of slavers within the areas of lower Skarsla.
