Description

This is Lyndeshita, one of a pair of sister swords from the time of the Necrite Wars. Currently in possession of a warrior known as the Lady Steel, this weapon's blade is a damascus pattern of adamantine and mythril silver, with a bronze cast of intertwined tree roots as a crosspiece and an acorn shaped pommel with a beechwood grip. Because of it's history, the hilt appears to have fresh bloodstains on it, though the weapon is dry to the touch.

Lyndeshita, the forest hope, ancient blade of the elves. Like its brethren, the blade was crafted during the first half of the Necrite Wars by the battlemage Kathuis Dri’marath for use against the armies of the orcs led by Torak the Dark. Lyndeshita was the weapon of Thalindra, the Princess consort of the king, who also acted as his personal protector and bodyguard. Belonging to the family of Q’varellee, a family well known for the battle prowess of their members, Thalindra was already a proven warrior before the king had taken her to wife, and stood by his side on the battlefield with drawn blade. Quiet as the storm, gentle as the rain, and as lovely as the rising dawn, Thalindra was loved by the elves like no other and most especially treasured by her sister, the warrioress Kry’estiia, commander of the elven order of knights known as the Hawkmasks. It was these three elves; Thalindra, her sister Kry’estiia, and the Warleader Dalinor Ari’Telmithus, who were responsible for the victory over the orcs that ended the first half of the Necrite Wars. In the year of peace that followed, Thalindra set aside her blade to tend to the more gentle needs of repairing those lives forever shattered by the wars. She became a caretaker of the widowed and orphaned, fostering literally hundreds within the walls of the royal estates, and for a far too brief time, it seemed that the elves had survived. During this time, the Warleader Dalinor’s wife, a noble named Gamiela, was often seen within the confines of the estates, tending to the families at the side of Thalindra, and these two women often discussed the issue of isolation that the elves had created for themselves. Thalindra held that the elves needed to learn from the other races of the world, but should remain inviolate and apart while Gamiela believed that all individuals of good heart should exist without the bindings of racial bias. When the Necromancer Eldine launched his silent and deadly attack which marked the beginning of the second half of the Necrite Wars, the two had been within the palace in discussion over this familiar subject. As battle raged within the pearly white halls of the palace the women rushed to the throne room only to discover Dalinor slain and the king laying unconscious upon the ground, victims of the dark blade that would become a nightmare for the elven people forever, Shodukari, the Kinslayer. With rage Thalindra seized Lyndeshita from it place at the consort throne and attack the Necromancer Eldine, followed by Gamiela who had taken up her husband’s fallen blade, Gruumishalyn, but the power of Eldine was far stronger than any could imagine and Shodukari claimed another victim that day as Thalindra’s life blood poured across the sword she bore in her dying breath. By that time the elves had rallied against the sudden attack led by Thalindra’s sister Kry’estiia and they had penetrated into the throne room. Eldine retreated, content in what destruction he had wrought, and the elves were left to mourn their dead. Lyndeshita, streaked with Thalindra’s blood, was claimed by Kry’estiia. Time passed, and the war was going badly for the elven people. Gamiela came before the Council, pleading for their permission to search for allies among the other races. The council was split into two factions. The first held fear in their hearts over the threat that loomed over them all, and threw their support towards the newly widowed woman. Others feared the reactions of the other races when it was revealed how weakened the elves were and refused Gamiela’s request. Within this squabble of voices an unmoving figure sat, cradling the sword of her sister. The sole surviving heroine of the Necrite Wars, Kry’estiia vehemently resisted Gamiela’s efforts, insisting that the elves were strong enough to do battle alone, and that she herself would destroy Eldine in blood payment for the loss of her sister. The Council looked at this silver armored goddess and united swiftly, denying Gamiela her request. Elected Warleader by the Council, Kry’estiia waged war against Eldine’s forces, throwing the armies of the elves against the hordes of the Undead he commanded. It was a slowly losing battle, for each elf that fell only arose again to fight on the Necromancer’s side but Kry’estiia refused to give up. Years passed, hundreds died, and finally the Council called her before them. As she entered the chambers, she saw Gamiela standing beside a human in arcane robes. Nearby was a trio of dwarves, armored and armed for battle, as well as another elf with silver eyes and quite power within her presence. The Council informed her that Gamiela had forged alliances with the humans, dwarves and even those dragons who would listen to the elven plight. Together with their new allies, they had begun to forge stronger weapons and armor and to learn new battle magic to use against Eldine. The first weapon that had been created from this alliance was brought before her, a beautiful bastard sword etched with the elven runes of wind and courage intermingled with the dwarven rune script. Windsinger was its name she was told, the new blade for the Warleader. Appalled at what she considered an atrocity, Kry’estiia forswore her name and family, calling all the Council traitors to the race and the memories of the fallen. Belting Lyndeshita around her waist, the newly christened Lady Steel continued the battle against Eldine on her own terms, without the elven armies. When word reached her of the new Warleader, Gamiela’s victory over Eldine, she forsook the elven kingdoms and dwelt in the wilds rather than return, and thus the lands changed around her. Decades, then centuries passed, and Lady Steel became one of the Barons of the Warlord states of Skarsla where she remains to this day. Lyndeshita still remains with her, a constant companion and an eternal reminder.
