Description

This sword was designed for a character in my stories, named Midnight. It was intended as a single edged saber type weapon that could be used in a fighting style that had many deceptive moves and is a type of weapon known as a Hexblade.

Grimalkin is currently the weapon of the Vivandé known as Midnight. This ‘Soulkeeper’ carries the blade as one of the few heirloom possessions of his slaughtered family which survived their destruction. How long the weapon had been within his family is unknown as the only histories that Midnight possesses are those of his own memory and a few journals that were penned by his uncle who was the family’s former Vivandé. Prior to becoming an heirloom blade however, scholars have located the written accounts of a warrior who called himself ‘Herald’ or in full title ‘The Herald of Justice’ a rather pretentious name for an individual with delusions of grandeur. Believing he was called into divine service, much like a paladin, the warrior, who’s true name was Vladimir, painstakingly recorded a description of what he referred to as his ‘Arsenal of Justice’ within his diaries. Listed with is a sword matching the one now known as Grimalkin that is presumed to be the blade discovered by the warrior in an earlier part of the journal. These records, and the few remaining bits of Vladimir, were discovered within the underground crypts of Istaria’s sprawling graveyard. The sword however was nowhere to be found. Years later, within the accounts of employment among the nobles of Istaria were found mention of a mage assassin who worked under the name of ‘The Adder’. Further research revealed the assassin’s use of a blade that could have been Grimalkin during their well traveled career. The blade and its wielder vanished during one such traveling mission into the Freelands and remained hidden from history until found by a Zhani family under unknown circumstances. When reclaimed by Midnight, fire had damaged the temper of the blade and charred the hilt to uselessness. Upon taking service as an agent for Lilith Mörvia, the leader of Clan Mörvia, the craftsmen of the Ghül race, Midnight’s first requests for payment included the restoration of his family’s blade. Not only did the Ghül matron repair the weapon, she improved upon it, weaving Ghülcraft into the blade to strengthen the abilities of her chosen agent. Now Grimalkin remains at his side as he acts in his Lady’s name for her will.
