Bloodthorn

This is Bloodthorn, a bastard sword that I made for one of my characters known as Carnage. She is the leader of a mercenary army known as the Crimson Dragons. Amusingly enough, Carnage herself is a red dragon, but is a kind of runt to the breed, possessing little of the magical skills of her race. She retains the shape of a dark tanned elven woman with crimson red tresses because the agony caused by the prolonged transformation time her lack of magical talent causes. As a result, she is not commonly known to be a dragon, almost all people thinking that she retains her savage beauty and youth through the use of spells or a device of some kind. In addition to the crimson platemail that she wears, she is most recognised by the sword she wields, a magical blade that is stored in the gauntlet of her right arm, summoned to her grasp only when blood is spilled. Much like it's mistress, Bloodthorn is both beautiful and terrifying, with a inky black blade, and a hilt of red hued copper and brass wrought in a thorn vine pattern with blooming roses on both pommel and basket. The grip is crimson dyed leather with copper decoration.

Known as one of the strongest swordsmen in existance, with centuries of practice to hone her skills, Carnage wields her blade with savage delight, and deadly accuracy.



Bloodthorn’s history is shrouded in mystery. No one origin can be agreed upon by learned scholars as the most probable truth. Some say that the red copper that composes a majority of the weapon shows the blade to be a product of the Sunset Mountains and the dwarves who once lived within it. Others argue that the blade’s unique shape place it as a work of the Drow from the Forest of Temptations. Other scholars claim that it is obviously the weapon used by Ascar the Desert Wolf, a legendary hero of the nomadic tribes who dwell in the Desert of Blasted Shadows and as such was created by Kalista, the goddess of sun and flame. A few claim that Bloodthorn’s appearance and need for blood mark it as a weapon created for the service of the god Shanal, Master of Pain. Whatever the origin of the weapon, for the past four centuries it has had a long and bloody tale. The current and only definitely known wielder of the blade is the general of the largest mercenary company in existence, the Crimson Dragons. This band, which numbers in the thousands, is the highest paid and most effective military force ever seen. The fates of kingdoms have been changed by their presence on the battlefield. Their leader and general is known as The Dragon Queen officially, but is better known by and readily answers to the name bards and those crushed by her have given her, Carnage. An exotically beautiful woman with the brown skin of the desert people, but with flaming crimson hair, Carnage has lived in mature youth for the past three hundred years though the use of unknown means. Bloodthorn has been in her possession since the first recorded battle the Crimson Dragons campaigned in. Clad in Hell Iron forged full plate Carnage leads her troops at the front line and is often a rallying point for her troops when moral is weakened. Always fulfilling her contract, Carnage often faces the leader of the opposing force one on one with Bloodthorn in hand after her troops shatter whatever stronghold or defenses the opponent has. Bloodthorn was forged for battle, whatever the origin of the weapon and has excelled in its calling in Carnage’s hand. It is highly unlikely that it will have a new wielder any time in the near future.
