Ar'Quisst is the sword of Tarra, a young girl who is the main character of my stories. At first she was a narrative device mostly, allowing me to explain portions of the world's past histories and such as she was instructed by Arasaun, the silver dragon/elf that lived in the mountains nearby. After a short time however, I ended up jumping forward a few years and having her become an adventurer. Ar'Quisst was the sword given to her by Arasaun, whose father once wielded the blade, but later on the sword was broken and reforged with a portion of Tarra's soul at a mystic forge, turning it into a Soulblade and allowing it to grow in power as she grows in experience.
Ar’quisst was once the blade of the first elven dragon sorcerer and founder of an elven order known as the Serpent Mages. Imbued with part of the sorcerer’s lifeforce, the enchanted weapon remained in existence for hundreds of years before being given as a gift to a human girl named Tarra on her sixteenth birthday by the sorcerer’s son, a Serpent Mage name Arasaun, who was the girl’s mentor. Bearing the weapon with her in the beginnings of her adventuring career, she became involved in a battle against an evil necromancer named Eldine and his servant while they were searching for an artifact of great power. During this battle Tarra used Ar’Quisst to damage a set of bracers that Eldine wore and as a result, the magical backlash snapped Ar’Quisst’s blade. Taking up the shards, Tarra traveled with the aid of a friend to where a place of power known as the Living Forge existed in an attempt to restore the blade, acquiring another weapon, a dwarven forged longsword along the way. When she arrived the keeper of the forge instructed her of what was entailed in being granted a weapon from the Living Forge. The forge would call forth a portion of the girl’s soul and shape it into a weapon for her and her alone. However Tarra placed within the coals of the forge’s fires the shards of Ar’Quisst as well as the dwarven blade and a scale from her mentor before the process began and for the first time know to the keeper the forge created a blade that was not just from the heart of the girl but also merged the offerings together, reforging Ar’Quisst into it present state. Because of this unusual case, the weapon already began its life with the powers that had existed within both swords prior as well as possessing the ability to increase in power by Tarra’s own life experiences. Little was known of Ar’Quisst’s powers prior to its new life, not even by Arasaun, and so within the blade lies untapped potential waiting to be summoned forth.
Well, eventually, I'll be doing Bloodthorn, which is the sword of a female red dragon, who magic ability is almost nonexistant, so she stays in elven form mostly and is the leader of a huge mercenary army. But I don't know when that will be yet. Rightnow I'm working on an evolving sword. It starts out as a longsword, but can evolve into a stronger bastard sword form. Got the first, done, but can't get a blade shape that I like for the second.
